This past Thursday, 38 different online gambling operators have been granted licenses to run online poker, online casinos, and even sports betting under regulatory framework that will become active on January 1st, 2012.

The following is some of the companies that have been granted licenses:

Reel Denmark Ltd (PokerStars owned company)
Betfair
888
Ladbrokes
PKR
Unibet
Bet24
Scandic Bookmakers

Overall, there are over 180 domain names with the dot.dk extension that will offer gaming. The tax on earnings for companies in Denmark will be somewhat high as they will tax 25% on all gross profits. In addition, there may be IP restrictions put in place to block unlicensed operators from offering games in Denmark.

Reports seem to indicate that player pools on these sites will not be separated from other international players. There are regulations in place where players can set their own deposit limits and self-exclude themselves from international players.

There are currently no restrictions on what games that players can play. Any Danish player wishing to play at the site must go through a verification process before being allowed to play.

At present, Groupe Bernard Tapie does not appear to have filed a license request for a Danish license. The new market should be a boost to PokerStars who is looking to replace players lost after the Black Friday indictments.

At this time, it is uncertain when sites will be permitted to go live and offer games, but at least companies now can move forward in the design and testing phases of their Danish projects.
